About the Artist,
Carolyn Donnelly
I
live on the coast of New South Wales in Australia.
My
love is the natural environment, especially the beach and rocky shores.
Every day the foreshore environment changes and becomes a new work of
art. It is a place of extreme contrasts - complete
stillness next to constant movement, extreme dry within inches of
extreme wet, the smooth of the ocean lapping the rough textured rocks
and sand, complete starkness next to a party
of colour.
I was given an SLR
camera in 1987 and that fueled an intense interest in
photography.
I studied both black and white and colour photography in Paddington,
Sydney in 1989. At that stage I loved black and white photography
because I could develop my own pictures easily. I remember
days
being swallowed in the dark room as I watched with excitement as each
image came into being. At that time I was teaching the operation of
computers and software. Little did I know at the
time that
these two worlds would one day converge.
With
the introduction of digital
camera technology I have been able combine my photography with
my
computer software skills and have experienced a new sense of freedom in
my aristic endeavours. I have swapped the excitement of the
dark
room image with the excitement of
the computer image. I still love traditional photography and many of my
photographs are 'as taken'. However, my current passion is
to alter my photographs to bring out
particular colours and to create a more
surreal and sometimes abstract image. |
