| Sky
Art The sky is crucial to our survival. It influences our spiritual beliefs and feeds our imagination. We earthbound humans are intrigued by the sky, its mystery, its power and its visual delights. We are constantly treated to changing displays of colour, texture and shape by this ever moving, turbulent mass. Our sky is the source of our air, water, energy, warmth and everything upon which life on earth depends. It can also threaten our very survival through droughts, floods, storms and cyclones - its might leaving us powerless and in awe. On both a spiritual level and a scientific level, the sky is our connection to the rest of the universe. We are reminded of the concept of infinity when we gaze out into those endless depths. How small and insignificant we are in the big scheme of things. Cast adrift on planet earth like a sailor shipwrecked on an island of paradise the human race has often looked out to the heavens for connection and affirmation that we are not alone. It is the source of life, mystery and hope. .... My sky art images are all produced using mixed media, traditional photography and graphics software. I look for a particular composition and colour when taking photographs. I take advantage of the colour and hues that are present at certain times of the day or during particular weather patterns if I think these will work well for my technique. I then use graphics software to bring out the colour of the image and create a surreal or abstract look. I will often change colours and use painting tools available in the software to add effects and colour to an image. I do not have any particular guidelines or rules that I follow to create my art. Some pictures are worked to just a small degree and others undergo extensive work. I stop working when I like the image. Rainbow Art Rainbows contain every colour in the spectrum so they represent a balance of the qualities and attributes associated with each of those colours. Rainbows represent wholeness, completeness and fulfilment. The adage that there is a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow is often interpreted to mean that you can never reach that pot of gold because you can never get to the end of the rainbow. Perhaps it could be better interpreted to mean that once you feel that you have the qualities that a rainbow embodies, i.e. wholeness, balance and fulfilment then you will have your pot of gold - pot of gold being a metaphor for joy. Rainbows turn up in your life before a period of joy, often following a period of difficulty. Once you see one rainbow, you will notice many for a short time after the first. You may see them dancing in the sunlight as a reflection from crystal or glass or streaming across the sky after a rain shower. They are a good omen and a promise of better things to come. ... My rainbow images are also mixed media, using a combination of photography and graphics software tools. The rainbow pictures are special though, as double rainbows do not come along so often (or they do when you're not looking!). I was very lucky to capture the photographs that I did so clearly and with such intense colour. Back to the Art Gallery For incense, essential
